I'm certainly no expert but I'll give it a shot since nobody else has answered. My only experiance is with EVO's, not shovels.

Maybe because it was sitting for 2 years? Perhaps the oil drained out of the tank and back into the sump. When you first started it, the scavenger side of the pump couldn't pull the oil out of the crankcase fast enough. When the pistons come down, it may build up more pressure than what is expected, and the oil is going to go somewhere - out your breather.

Don't know what to tell you about how to fix it. Somehow you need to get the oil out of the sump. Maybe just running it for a couple of minutes will do it. Hopefully someone else with a softail will pipe in. My 'Dyna and my Bagger both have oil tanks on the bottom at the same level as the sump. Hasn't yet been a problem for me.

You might try Harley Tech Talk on MSN groups. Lots of knowledge and experiance over there.

you should be fine after running it for a bit. what happend is it "wet sumped". after sitting for such a long time oil did pass through the check in the oil pump and ended up in the sump of the engine.....it will blow out what it doesnt want and should stop. replenish the oil in the tank. an oil change after the oil quits being blown out would be advised.....have fun and let us know how it rides......
