Sorry about this guys, but I'm OCD. I'll be changing my oils and filter soon. Have a 2011 Electra Glide Ultra Limited (FLHTK), and will be be doing the 5,000 mile (I do have the shop manual). I ride in the Northern, VA/Washington, DC traffic with hot and humid mid-Atlantic summers I plan on putting the Amsoil MCV 20w-50 in the engine, MCF 10w-40 in the primary chain case, and SVO 75w-140 Severe Gear in the transmission. I plan on using the Amsoil EA15K51-EA black oil filter. I guess the real question is; use the Amsoil filter or the HD filter? Also, on my last oil change when I replaced the oil filter, I couldn't get a good grip on the filter to tighten it. So I used the HD oil filter wrench to "snug" the filter down. What can I expect when trying to take the filter off. Doubt I screwed anything up, just made it a little harder to take off??

Welcome to the board rdu1961 Glad to have you.
The people on here are a great help.

As far as the choice of filter goes I have ran HD filters and have always had good results However that is my HO. What ever you prefer is what you should run. AS far as getting the filter off It should not be that bad just be sure to check and make sure the seal comes completely off.

the filter may be difficult to remove....use the filter wrench to free it. filter should be lubed with clean motor oil then tightened to about 1/2 turn after seating the seal.....be sure to check for leaks........the worst filters to remove are those that were not lubed before installing...............and welcome to the place!!!!!!!!!

I run the amsoil filter in my 03 E glide & there oil for many years & very happy with it , as for taken off the tight filter , if you tighten with a filter wrench it might be tough to get off but it will come off , & like chucktx said wet the new seal with fresh oil :D & welcome to the site

Chuck beat me to it, but yes coat the new rubber ring with oil before you put a new one on. Don't have to be dripping wet just a single layer with you finger works great. I use the HD cup filter wrench with a long extension to take off and put on. Put my long handle MAC 3/8 drive ratchet on it and yes, as Chuck said about a 1/2 turn.

I had to remove the filter from my wifes Ultra after some gorilla put it on, plus installed an aftermarket filter on it. What a nightmare. Had to pound a screw driver in it to try and break it loose. I was cussing that mech where she had work done on her trike.

Let us know and welcome. :D

    To all,

Thank you for the warm welcome and taking the time to reply to my redundant question (which was answered by the way). I did coat the gasket with a film of oil, so that's a good thing. I got a chuckle from a couple of the replies, cause I could hear my "Sea Daddy" say to me when fixing airplanes in the Navy, "Where did you go, to the Charles Atlas School of Mechanics?" This after I stripped out a couple of torque-tips.

    Cheers all and thanks again.

So far I have been using HD oil filters and I have to say that I am impressed with them, but I do want to try the AMSOIL filters just to see what the difference if any is. I have read that the AO filters have smaller micron filtration. The cleaner the better right???? Welcome!

I use Mobile 1 Syn and HD filters. Mobile 1 was recommended by the big engine builder here. One thing to, its easier to find when on the road. Amsoil is good and does a good job just to hard to find, no retail outlets here.

ONe of the reasons I like Mobil1 Vtwin is its easy to find.

Some folks run Mobil1 Auto Oil from Wally World as it's cheaper
and for years debates ran on about what the "real difference" was

Eventually Mobil1 changed the viscosity on the auto oil
so you can't get 20W-50 syn auto.

    Marketing hype - probably..

Anyway, as long as the oil and the filter meet or exceed the minimum requirements
for your bike then you are good to go...
