This is going to seem like a stupid question but,
where, on a '74, electric start, Sportster, is the oil filter supposed to be?
I've recently purchased this bike and am stumped.
All the info I can gather is that there "may" be a drop in type.
I've searched through the Haynes book and Harley's own service manual and they are both useless!

It can be either a drop in type or an in line type. If you do not have a small inline filter, look at your oil tank cap and down inside. You might have a cartridge or a a horsehair type filter. Get a hold of the correct year parts book from H-D. It is more accurate than a service manual when it comes to what parts go to what years.
