Oil In My Water

    I Have A 97' T-bird And The Ol'lady Says ( Is It Normal For The Coolent To Be Black) I Said Hell No!. After Looking At It, It Looks Like The Coolent Resevouir Is Full Of Oil, But After Pulling The Radiaitor Cap And Looking At The Coolent, It Looks Fine. My Guess Is At The Last Oil Change Someone F'ed Up. The Car Runs Fine And Is Well Taken Care Of. Is There A Possible Way That, That Much Oil Could Be There From A Internal Problem. Just Looking For Some Opinion Before I Go On A Head Hunt!

    yup.........head gasket. there is more oil pressure than water pressure. a faulty gasket will let the oil enter the cooling system. drain the cooling system,....refil with water(temporally), then run it for a day or two, keeping an eye on the coolant, check the results. if nothing happens after a week, drain and refill with the coolant of your choice. check the trans fluid also. there is a cooler in the radiator for cooling this fluid. either way the simple test above will work.

    Problem Solved Chuck, Just Took Her Down And Traded It In, For A 03' 2 Door Sunfire. Man That Little 4 Banger Will Suck Ya Back In The Seat!

    oil in coolant?

    I have two older Mercedes' and at about 80,000 mile intervals it seems oil starts to show up in the coolant. Replacing the head gasket fixes the problem.
