Hi All, I am new to motorcycles and this forum. I had a HUGE problem errupt today and I am hoping you can help. I rode home from work on the interstate (about 20 miles at 60 mph). I do this 5 days a week.

Today, I pulled into my driveway and turned off my bike then the oil just poured onto the driveway. I cleaned it up, poured more oil in to see where it is leaking, nothing came out.

What is wrong? What do I do next?

    My specs
    1980 Honda CB650
    9400 original miles
otherwise in great shape (had the pros check it out)

    Thank you! Becky

Hi there, I am following up with my question.

Initially, I had no idea where the oil was pouring from. Upon further inspection and removal of the chain cover, we discovered that the rubber gasket around the gear shift is the source. I chisled away what seemed to me to be an enormous amount of 3D, gooey, disgusting oil from inside the cover and around the immediate area of the gear shift.

Tomorrow, I am checking with the pros about the best way to fix the leak, but at least I know now and can rest easier.

I will follow up again when the fix is done and confirmed.

    Thank you, Becky

Good luck, Becky. Be sure you take your bike to a reputable shop - preferably a Honda dealership if your bike is still under warranty. It's possible you may have voided your warranty by removering the cover yourself. Some dealerships are mighty picky about that.

It's been awhile but think there's a seal that goes in there shifter shaft slides through it

You are correct. I had 2 pros look at it today and this is the solution. In the meantime, I need to ensure that the oil isn't overfilled and just keep checking it until I can replace the seal. It is something I can do.

    Thanks all! Becky
