Oil pressure

have an 85 evo 113ci S&S with an oil pressure idiot lite coming off & on. don't have an oil gauge on the bike. how can I be sure oil is circulating & pressure is good before removing/replacing oil pump?

I think the easiest thing to do would be to get a pressure gauge on it soon before something bad happens. Sorry to sound dumb but it is full of oil I hope right? Have you checked out the gauge for loose wires? I would check the easy/obvious things first before I ripped my motor apart, and a new gauge should be relatively cheap. Good luck.

I had an issue once where my oil light bulb was getting grounded causing it to come on,you might check the oil pressure sending unit,but the first thing I would do is check your oil pressure with a gauge,so you know for sure, like voodoo said...good luck....

OK, I'm dumb. Tried hooking a pressure gauge up. I took a threaded nipple off, looked inside & there is a small "something" blocking the port. Maybe I didn't hook up to the right spot. Can you guide me further?

Are you mounting the gauge where the the lifter oil screen is? If so, thats what you are seeing. Take a pair of needlenose and carefully lift it out, clean and inspect it and put it back in. Mount your new gauge and your all set. At that location, you will be reading crankcase oil presure, so,you will know how the lubrication in the crankcase is doing.
