Can the stock oil pump handle 60 weight oil or should there be an upgraded pump? I have been thinking about running 60 weight lately..

I don't see why it shouldn't. I run 50 in mine and Tattoo runs 60 and sometimes 70 in his shovel when it gets really hot - like right now.

Just because it's a stock pump, doesn't mean it's a weak pump...if my 1st generation SE pump can pump rag filled goo through the system,I can't see any problem with your stock pump pushing clean 60wt oil through yours:cool::D

Too hot in Sota for 20-50??:D

it is getting hot up here. We have been getting temps up real close to 100* for a spell now. Just want to make sure that is good to go before I put 60 wt. in it. I just am taking care of my bike. :D

I have. But there isn't a lot on there that I am impressed with. I just ran across one that looks really interesting. It is called an OIlBud or something like that. It hides and I like that. Those Jaggs coolers are just ugly...:banghead:

Oil cooler is cheap compared to a new engine. ;) Harley oil coolers work very well.

I'd never survive in that kinda heat...I'll just stick to this little rock in the North Atlantic where there's always a cool breeze blowing off the ocean...

as long as your oil i quality and doesnt break down....the multi grade should be fine in the heat.

Do an engine guard oil cooler, cheap, easy simple,
you do need a thermostat based oil filter adapter, oil must
get warm enough to work in the winter.

I'd leave it with a good syn like Mobil 1 Vtwin 20W-50

if you want 60 then Amsoil makes a 20W-60, you want that
thinner viscosity at start up, twin cams have smaller oil passages
and very fine oil squirter ports in the cylinder, you don't want some
thick oil having to warm up and force it's way through passages
    like molasses

Gotta agree with that...was checking out all those little passages not too long ago...The piston jets are small, might take a 60wt or even a 50wt a little longer to build up the pressure to squirt... go with a good quality syn 20w-50 or 20w-60...add an oil cooler if you want....keep the bike moving you'll be fine:D:chopper:
