I have a 1972 FL Shovelhead, the engine has been bored and I have new jugs and pistons, S&S, I also have a new S&S oil pump. My problem is that at times when I start the bike oil dumps out of the bypass hose, I know that sometimes the checkball gets stuck or debris gets under it but I would like to know if there is something I can do to help prevent this dumping of oil. It does not do it all the time, usually at first start up when the bike has sat for a day or two and sometimes when I drive it for a short distance and then restart it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also is there a different type oil pump that I could install that might rid me of this problem.

Woody welcome to the site , it seems the S&S pumps do this alot after they get some miles or age to them , you have to reseat the check ball , or start you bike every day , there's some post on here on how to reseat the ball

dont you know that it is marking it's spot?????:roflmao:

the best cure is to ride it on a daily basis.....second is to reseat the ball...or route the line back to the chain and get it oiled when it happens.....have fun and let us know what your outcome is...........:)
