Oil tank confusion

    i have 79 sportster xlch me and my bro have been fighting about changed swing arm bearings and had to fix a short in tail light well looking at back top of oil tank i saw what looks to me a rub wear spot from the tire, i even took paper clip end and it went inside tank ,now my bro swears it is a vent so who is right?

    got a pic???? if it is shiney, like a rub, it could be from the tire. most vents have a hose on them to route the fumes,oil vapor to the ground......a pic would be great!!!

    thanks ,it looks shiney ,bro put it together before i could find camera,it's right at the weld,this one vents in front of engine,i think the tire rub was also the reason for tail light re-wiring,bro owned bike first i only owned it 2yrs,hope to ride soon when doc says ok.
