I'm facing knee surgery. On Memorial Weekend I f'd over my left knee simply by going down some stairs. The least of the damage is a torn miniscus. The bad news is the cyst in between the joint. It's almost one inch around and is the cushioning cartilage of the knee. It has to come out. To replace it they micro fracture (drill) into the ball many times so that the bone develops scar cartilage to replace the natural stuff. 4-6 weeks no weight on leg. 4-6 months recovery. Plus, knee will never be without issues.
Times like this I dwell on Danny and his trials. Makes mine seem minimal.

Damn...Did the torn miniscus on the left knee about 15 years ago...They repaired it orthoscopically or however the hell you spell it...Was on crutches and in a cast for a few weeks...Sux having to sleep on my back as I normally sleep on my stomach...Very painfil for me too...Took a lot of pain killers...Physical therapy was critical for my complete recovery...Looking back I would rather break a bone any day vs muscle damage...Good luck...

LOL sorry to laugh but about a year & a half ago I had both knees done I tore the meniscus in both of them I was down for 4 months ,& when I did get back on my Bike (E Glide ) it was to darn heavy at stops & the oil pump went south again I just sold it & ride my softail , Now I'am 5-9 & 175 lbs so I'am sure that small frame of mine did't help much
Best to you & listen to what the Doc says

Wife's mother is 84 and had a knee replaced and now she is out kicking up her heels and going to square dances again.

My older sister in NC her husband (older than you, I think) had both knees replaced. Talked to her tonight and he had just got back from playing 18 holes of golf.

Now my older brother who refuses to get it done now walks with a cane and wobbles back and forth cause his knees are so bad.

It will be worth it in the long run and maybe the wife will pamper you a bit more to.

Dang, Fatboy. And all these other stories about bad knees. My neighbor up the block had both knees operated on a couple years ago. She's pretty old but gets around okay now.

Best of luck to you, especially during the recovery/rehab period. Drink lots of extra fluids when taking pain meds.

Good luck. I know for a fact though that the older you get the longer you take for recovery. Look at the bright, it's not total knee replacement. But dang, that might actually be easier. Don't know?

hoping it goes good for you. A buddy of mine had both knees done a bunch of years ago. got another 15 years of playing hockey out of the surgery. Some said getting old sucks but I sure hate the alternative.
