I had to take off my outer fairing off this week for some other improvements. As I was in there, I didn't like what I saw. I saw that the torqz screws were going in wrong and are sestrying the mounting tabs that they go into.

Has anyone here ever replaced their outer fairing? If so, did you with Harley's stuff or different companies? I am thinking about replacing it. Thanks..

I have a streetglide and all the brackets(4)that mount the fairing broke(1 at a time). Now they are all welded up so as to not break again. I wouldn't want to be up around the century mark when they let go. What a mess that could lead to.

I get ya. You can tell that this fairing has been off a lot. It needs to be fixed.

I'd check all the brackets that hold anything on. Although I don't have a fairing or hard bags, I have heard from other bikers that they often need replacing.

No brackets for my fairing other than where the turn signals are. Held on by #25 torqx screws. Dipshiit system.

JB that's not uncommon, someone that doesn't know what to
do fubars the outter faring and there's no "well nuts" or inserts.

You can fill the holes with some kind of epoxy, let them harden
drill smaller than the screws then screw in the torx when you put it
on making new threads is about it, otherwise you'd need a new outer
    fairing, HD won't be cheap,

I would look to HD salvage or ebay but you never know what you'll
    get until you see it.

Get a two part epoxy and go for it and if you put it on like
I posted with the headlight out, then, align the sides there are
tabs on the inner and outer fairings that hold it in place
next slide the TS screw units into place and put the nuts and washers
on loose, this holds it up, then start at the top holding the outer in place
tight so it lines up then slowly start the torx, get it in but not tight,
do the other top, back to middle, other side middle
    then bottom.

    Snug up the torx
    Tighten the TS bolts,
    Reinstall the headlight bezel.

I did think of epoxy but what I saw was that the screw was actually coming out of the sides of the mounting hole. With this one, I am not sure that the epoxy would hold up up.

Just for hoots, do you have a recommendation of which epoxy to use?

I have reconsidered my original position on buying a new outer faring. I called HD and they want Almost $400 for just the skin. Then pay yo have it color matched. If i screw it up then i screw it up, at least i tried then. :D

I was thinking you could slot below the connection and put a tiny band clamp or zip tie if it's cracked or fill with a two part epoxy, wipe excess, screw in screw to proper depth
that way it'd make its own threads.

Yeah the key is to go slow, pull the headlight center,
hook the outer on the holding hooks,
slide in the TS put on nuts but don't tighten
then align the sides and put in screws gently.

then tighten up the rest of it...

Look on ebay someone has a take off
plus it's a good nuff reason to custom paint the bike right?

No reason to look on ebay, it is done. Also no custom paint for this bike other than a repaint and maybe and addition of 2% cherry in the black, but that won't happen for a long time, not until this paint job is just fubarred....
