Painting Your Pipes

    Does Anyone Know The Steps To Paint Chrome Pipes? Does It Need The Primer Or Can You Get Away With Just The High Temp Paint? What Would Be The Temp Rateing For The Paint. Just Wondering Because I'm Thinking About Doing This, I'm Just Tired Of Keeping Up With The Gold And Blue Clean Up.

    you need a coarse finish for any paint to stick....sandblasting comes to mind as a good way to get tooth in chrome. exhaust temps are probably around 900 to 1000 degrees so you need a paint that will withstand extreemly high temps. another way is to wrap them or get covers for them......hope this helps

    If you go that route with the rattle can and all...send pics if you think it looks good. I'm always looking for a few good ideas, and I'm not a darn bit ashamed to say where I took 'em from!!:D

    Try Powder coat

    I have ceramic black pipes, and they look great on my night train. I have seen some guys powder coat their pipes and they dont have any problems with the heat. If you can find a guy in town that does powder coating I would go that route.

    I've seen nice looking pipe paint jobs done with the black BBQ paint. They claim it holds up really well too; but touchups are cheap if you need em.

    A couple of guys claimed they just used those agressive red scotch-brite pads to scuff the chrome up in prep for the paint.

    Sportsterboy, 180 grit sandpaper will break the glaze enough for holding the paint. Just, when sanding, cross-hatch the directions.
