    Loyal riders-
I have recently purchased my first harley. It is a 1991 Fatboy. It has 9600 miles on it. I was wondering if there are some cost effective performance mods that y'all would recommend, (i.e. carb upgrades, rejetting, certain pipes). I know of the screaming eagle 95" kit for the 88-b's. Is there something like that foir the EVO's? Also, are there any parts companies/websites that you are fond of?

    Thanks,
    Joe

    I have a '99 Fatboy, and 3 items that will make a difference are: 1) cam, 2) carb - I recommend Mikuni, 3) pipes.

    Good luck.

The Fatboy is a fairly heavy bike much like a Road King so torque down low is more important than with an FXST or FXD for example. Select a cam like the Andrews EV27 and if you have stock headers some good slip on mufflers like the Cycle Shack's offer a big bang for the buck. If you do not have a free flow air cleaner add it to the list. For carburetion, the stock CV can be tweaked and will work fine but you can get better throttle response from a Mikuni and a tick more power. The CV is like a rheostat in response and the Mikuni responds much faster.

A typical Stage I with a cam will net you 15-20% gain in power typically getting into the mid 60 to low 70 hp range on EVO's. Add a good adjustable ignition like the Crane HI4E module and coil and you can gain another 1-2% and increase response even more.

For around a grand you can get the most bang for the buck you will get. After that it's the old saying "speed costs, how fast you wanna go?":D that comes into play.

    Pipes

Do you recommend drag pipes, true duals, or 2-1 pipes I was looking into the V&H 2-1 pro-pipe. It sounds great and from what I have heard adds some punch in the HP area. Thanks for all the advice.

I recommend the V&H 2-1 pro-pipes. I just installed them on my bike (replacing the V&H Longshots) and they a great, specially performance wise.

    Pipes

I also have V&H 2 into 1 Pro Pipe on a 1999 Fat Boy. Sounds and performs great. Much better than drag pipes. Good Luck.
