    I'm installing new rings.
I was told to gap the compression rings at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock facing the carbie and face the oil ring gaps at 9 and 3 o'clock.
Does this sound like a good plan?

should work, use a piston to push them down into the cyl so you get a smooth even
ring to set gap. Last set I did was spot on out of the box from SNS in the 106 kit...

Which side of the piston is the front? Which side is the rear?
Which side is the thrust face side?

should be arrows on the top showing the direction,
be sure you get them in the right position.

It's for installing the new rings. The pistons are already installed.

not sure about your question.....doing the 4 points for gaps dont matter, just as long as ya get em across from each other......top at 12....second at 6.....third at 3....fourth at 9......

Why are there different thickness head gaskets?
Is there supposed to be a small gap between the head and the cylinder?

The thinner your head gasket the higher your compression will be and could cause piston to valve clearance issues. A cheap way to deck the cylinders.

yes, there needs to be a spacing. the gasket also helps in the sealing of gasses so they go out the exhaust and come in through the intake. if your going to install thinner gaskets, be sure to do a squish on the pistons. you dont want them hitting anything except hot exploding fuel!!!!

I'm using the copper gaskets that are .032" thick.
About how much space should be between the top of the cylinder and the bottom of the head?
