Just thought I'd post some conclusions from my little experiment with the above named modification. For those of you not in the know I tried to weld a slug in the "Y" pipe crossover and effectively create a 2 into 1 exhaust....well in my opinion, it doesn't work! I had to replace a front cyllinder head gasket yesterday and decided to remove the slug as I thought it was causing additional back pressure during startups and making a kind of popping noise as the first waves of exhaust came running down that pipe and slamming into the slug. Well I found a couple interesting things in my riding since. I seem to have a wider and taller power band and the exhaust note it deeper and louder. I don't think this cheapo mod was allowing my new big bore to breathe freely enough and choking out the power above 4000 rpm.

Now on another note. I found a spiderweb of cracks in the "y" pipe and welded them back up yesterday but I plan to replace them this winter. I'd like other people opinions on what are some good 2 into 2 headers or full exhaust systems for the touring line. I'd like to have a pipe down each side...and you just don't see much advertised for anything other than softails in the 2 into 2 variety. All opinions welcome but I have heard the Rhineharts are having quality control issues so I've basically ruled them out for now. Please sound off on your opinions either good or bad.

Preliminary Dyno runs are showing the V&H true duals are SWEET! They made a huge difference and you can see the change in the curve and the output. I think they will out perform the Rineharts and give you a selection of mufflers as you can use any that will fit a 95 and later.
