    Hello,
Today wasn't my lucky day. I installed a PCIII USB on my 2004 FLHTI along with Rineharts and an SE intake at the same time. All this was done a short 6 months ago. Since I wanted to stay away from the Dealership to get a reflash, I installed the supplied map 807-143 for the stock ECU. Been running like a top for the last six months.
WELL........today on the way home from work in the rain, the bike started missing, popping, and losing power. The engine died on the highway in another mile or so. I still had all lights, gauges, turn signals etc. Engine light was on. Tried restarting and it would turn over but not fire.

I unplugged the PCIII and plugged in the stock ECU back in.
The check engine light went out after the switch was turned on and the bike started right up. Ran fairly good the last 8 miles home considering it was probably pretty lean.
It's 1:30AM and I just got home so haven't looked into it or tried plugging the PCIII into the computer to see if it works.
Does anyone have any experience or info on this? Does Dynajet have any type of warranty on these? (6 months old and less than 2000 miles on it)

By the way, the exhaust and the PCIII were purchased here at Direct Parts via internet.
    Thanks for any help,
    Chad

Dyno Jet warranty is 1 year I believe. They do all warranties direct. If you have a copy of the invoice from us, call them at 1-800-992-4993 and they will help.

If there are any problems, contact us at 800-368-6217 and ask for Sam.

One thing that I found out a long time ago is that when you ride through heavy rain the belt whips water up onto the PC (under left side cover) and if there is one tiny way in, the water will find it and take it out. When I was testing the PCII / PCIII / DFO, I made a shelf to install them on and they stay a lot drier.

When you replace it, consider some rain proofing like making a shelf or like one customer down in Florida did use a heavy duty bag zip tied shut.

Yours may have even dried out and would work but, it may not hurt to get it swapped out.

The PC111r I had stopped working due to a bad Crank sensor. I remember the same issue that your describing, bike would not start with PC plugged in, but would after I unpluggewd it. Also I can not remember if I had to run the bike through the diagnostic check procedure to gain the code for a bad crank sensor or if the check engine light was on after it started? Anyway after I changed out the sensor everything was fine. I did not have the rain issue but thought I would share the info anyway, hope everything works out.

    works

Hey thank you both for your information.
I plugged it back into the computer and appeared to be fine. I plugged it back into the bike and ran great for over 100 miles over half of them at 70mph.
I may just keep riding with it and see if it happends again.

    Electronics

I learned a long time ago that water and electronics do not mix. I had a similar problem, but only in heavy rain. I just kind of figured that either the carb was sucking water, or the coil was soaked/shorting out; because, if I pulled out of the rain and knocked the water out it would run right once again. The bike was not one of these high-tech, injection-gizmo's, but concept is the same. "Water, electronic and gasoline should not be mixed" :D

    KillerB,
I know EXACTLY what you are saying. I have been an aircraft electrical technician for the last 17 years. Of course a lot of the aircraft fly through wet weather, sit in the rain, and even leak through the fuselage.
The whole theory of "water and electronics" has kept a roof over my familys head and food on the table for almost two decades.
I have just never had a problem with electronics on a bike fail me from riding in wet weather (in the last 21 years of street riding).
I just hope this doesn't happen any time soon. I have checked all connections and all seem to be good now.
    Thanks for the reply
