    So long story short...

I was on a quest to find a solo seat and found a local shop that offered to order me a mustang solo for much lower than anywhere I was able to find it online.

I went to his shop to pay for the seat so he could order it and he started asking questions about my bike which is a 2007 FLSTF. He noticed I had Vance & Hines Big Radius exhaust and asked where I had it installed. I told him I had the stage 1 done at a the HD dealership and he said it sounded like it was running 'lean'. Not sure what this means but I assume it has to do with O2/Fuel mixture. He asked what they did and I told him they installed a screaming eagle race tuner, a high flow air filter and dyno tuned it.

He immediately said "Really? They really used a race tuner? That's surprising...". then he went on to say it's a bad combination with my exhaust and I really should have a properly tuned Power Commander. He also said that I could be doing damage to the engine and that he could put a power commander in and tune it for $550.

I have found some threads about screaming eagle versus power commander but I'm not concerned about which is better so much as I'm concerned about trying to determine if this guy is trying to sell me something I don't really need.

Do I need to go out and spend $500 or am I setting myself up for a $3000 catastrophe by using what the dealership installed? I'm inclined to trust HD but I wanted some objective opinions. He said I could do damage to the pistons, etc.

Oh and hi, I'm new here, my name is Brian and I ride a 2007 Fatboy :) Nice to meet you all. Thanks in advance for any advice you can send my way!

You are getting a sales job! The race tuner and a good dyno operator will give you a well tuned map in all of the perameters needed to properly run your motor. The power commander can also accomplish this task. Don't want to get into all of the normal arguements about which is better, you've already got a racetuner and don't need to get the power commander. I hate it when people use someone's inexperience to try to sell them something you really don't need. If the guy felt you were running lean and would pull a run to see if you were tuned right without charging, then I'd say he was actually worried about you and the longevity of your motor. Most dyno operators that I know can tune either product.

apexaz welcome & liston to vyber8er, You don't need two tuners , I run the PC 111 , but you already have a good tuner with the racetuner from HD , & like vyber8er said your getting a sales job , there a few guys here with the same tuner you have & they speak very good about it , both tuners do about the same thing , so save your money for gas & beer cause riding season is here :D

My Harley dealership service manager actually recommended the race tuner over the Power Commander because of some way of self adjusting, but I lost him in the details.

Boy I'm glad someone else said it first, I would be very careful at that place. I hate those kind of places that try and snowball someone into something they don't need. You got a good tuner, walk away from that guy, better yet run.
I won't go into which is better as both when properly tuned do a good job. I have a race tuner on my 09 Ultra and like it.
