Hello, looking for a little advice on a problem I’m having getting this bike to run properly.

Seems to generally start and idle ok with the choke fully engaged, but when I twist the throttle either a little or a lot, the engine dies. I’ve found that when I block off about 97% of the air intake, the idle increases sharply and I can rev the engine just fine, but as I start to open up the airflow blockage, the problem returns. Disengaging the choke lever kills the engine immediately.

The bike is an ’87 Yamaha XV535 which was running fine when last used nearly a year ago. I’ve siphoned the old fuel from the tank and replaced it with a bit of fresh gasoline mixed with a little Seafoam motor treatment. Also been squirting some of the Seafoam into the air intake to no avail.

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions on what to look for and different things to try.

Did you change the fuel filter, sounds like its need more gas. Have you cleaned out the carbs and jets yet.

Clean out carbs, drop the bowls, clean, make sure jets are clear,
fuel filter, drain the tank and put fresh fuel in, it can varnish, be sure plugs are new,
