Sorry I didn't see this sooner....I put the progressive (lower) shocks on my FXDWG and LOVE them. It lowered me a bit and they ride excellent. I think mine are the 418's though. It was the first pair that Progressive made for my bike, I had to wait 4 weeks for them but well worth it! Also have the progressive lowering kit on the front too, dropped it one inch as well. Way better than stock.....

I just ordered a set of stock length (12") 440s for my FXWG, but haven't got them yet. I wanted to go with the shorter ones, but was afraid they would ride too rough for my screwed-up back.

My lower back is hammered too but the shocks are set kinda soft now and then when I ride 2-up I just adjust them accordingly....

I went with the 412 Series and I like them.Had to make a few adjustments with the setting until I got it where it was good riding 2-up.Much better than stock.

I put a set of Arnott air suspesion on my 94 FXDWG and have been really happy with them. The compressor mounts to the front motor mount and gives real nice ride with one or two on it.

Just got the 440s on. They came with 300/350 rate springs, so they're not as cushy as I'd like. They ride way better than the stock shocks though. I might order a set of softer springs, I think they would be perfect then. Going on a short trip with the missus in a few days, so I'll see how they work ridin' 2-up and let you know when we get back home.

The preload can be adjusted on them...From Progressives website...A top mount threaded preload adjuster allows for fine tuning with a simple twist of the cap... From another board...The adjustment allows for 10 full turns (clockwise to increase preload). No visible reference marks at minimum preload, three marks visible at maximum preload.

They're set at the softest from the factory. After puttin' a few miles on 'em, I'm startin' to like them better. I guess now it's time to do the front springs too...
