I am bringing a high end, fairly expensive yet lite and durable tent:
Twilight 2P | Marmot Clothing and Equipment

and a double sleeping bag. I am bringing both just in case. If I never have to use 'em...fine. Better to have and not need then to need and not have is my motto.

Are you taking the wife along to keep you warm?

Before you buy that expensive tent, check out this motorcycle camping trailer from Leesurelite.com It's so easy to set up (6.8 seconds) and take down, you won't want anything else. It has a tongue weight of only 23 lbs, and can store all kinds of extra gear. They're made in Canada, but have distributors all over the US. $4700, and will pay for itself on one long trip.

We have had ours for years now and love it. Best motorcycle tent trailer. We only had to pay 2400.00 new for it so that tells you how long we have had it.

Already bought the tent. Not feeling the towing camper deal. Seen to many uncool situations regarding towing those. I will check it out for S&G's. Thanks for the lead. Sometimes you can teach an old dog new tricks. How has your experience been towing one? How about in city interstate congestion?

    It does look cool.

    Is this you:

No that's not me, but I've thought about one for a long time. What do you mean about too many situations? Have you seen problems with towing a trailer?

Re: What State are you from?

All I can tell you guys is this and you can take it or leave it. I have pulled tent trailers for 20 years. I never had any problems with pot holes or anything else. The only thing I have had to be more aware of is the extra weight when stopping. You do have to brake earlier and give it more brake. No you don't corner as well but can still corner pretty well. They can be a lot of fun when going camping and if camping it makes it easier on the wife. We did not cook in camp except had to have my coffee in the morning but did take stuff along in the cooler for making light things.
Trailers are not for for everyone but they can be fun as many bikers have found out.
Sleepy has also pulled a tent trailer for as long as I have or longer I'll let him explain his feelings towards them but bet he has more positive than negatives about towing one.

Re: What State are you from?

Mostly related to the issue of the extra weight behind you as well as consequences from the trailer taking control of the bike away from the rider in some situations. Perhaps they stemmed from the rider not calculating his limitations in some situations. I'm old, my nerves are freind and I try to keep it simple and be proactive to minimize my issues. I think a trailer would keep my nerves on heightened alert, lol.

I moved the posts about pulling a trailer to a new thread about pulling a trailer instead of what state are you from. I think pulling a trailer would be a great discussion topic but in the right thread.

Balance and tounge weight is what you have to watch for, FLHT gave me advise on pulling a trailer, I stick to what he told me and I haven't had any trouble, starts require a little more throttle and braking a little more brake and a little earlier. In the rain they do throw a bit more water to the people behind you. Watch the gas pumps when pulling in to get fuel.

buddy had a wing with a trailer, long neck sucker.

I rode it home and around a few days, took pictures to help
him sell it. He used it once without issue.

He got a new beemer KL, loaded it up no trailer but had a hitch
with one of those slip in shelves, said he got so much weight
on the back that the front end was too light couldn't steer
had to pull stuff off the back.

So it's probably a balance act.

Also you best check with dealer if you have a bike under
warranty as HD has a no trailer pulling warranty, if they
see a hitch on the bike some dealers will no do warranty
work and call HD to report the bike is used to tow.

No bike manufacture has a warranty if you pull a trailer. If you have it set up properly you won't have any problems including weight distribution. I used to put on a trailering seminar when I belonged to the Goldeing group. Many thanked me as they were doing it wrong and said my class made a huge difference for them.

The service manager without saying it directly but indirectly said to remove the hitch before, taking it in, that's if it is a brand new bike and you were pulling a trailer.

I had warranty work done on the engine of my '04 EG and left the hitch on it. I think if you're out on the road and another dealer looks at it you could have an issue but if you have a good relationship with your home shop it should be no problemo.
Trailers are an acquired taste. If you're out on a long tour two up, they're great for packing stuff. We have a tent trailer..a tiny mite. They don't set up nearly as slick as the lessure lite. but they pull awesome. They are narrower lighter and the centre of gravity is much lower on them. We've gone through some cow trails with it, hit some really rough construction this year, had one of the stabilizing legs fall down and caught in the ground and jerked the trailer almost out from underneath the bike but we didn't go down. If a person was going to get into trailering I wouldn't tie a leesure lite to the back of the bike as a first trailer unless you're a highly skilled rider. There's been some good tips here already like braking earlier. The only time I'm really aware about the trailer being there is on the downhill on a fun stretch of road [corners] The trailer will push the bike a little so you learn to be a little smoother in your lines, gear selection, throttle modulation and braking. Our trailer is like the American Express Card for touring "don't leave home without it"

I've pulled the Kwik Kamp tent trailer, the Bunhouse tent trailer and the Lees-Ure Lite tows the best and is the lightest weight trailer. Found a pic of ours and you can see it has plenty of room. Sets up in 30 seconds and your inside. :D

Just don't let Harley find out you're towing. A friend of mine lost his extended warranty on this SE Ultra because of that.:cussing::cussing:
