I'm going to pull the fuel tank off the Springer. What is the best way to drain and pull the tank. With the two crossover lines how do you pull them without spilling any gas? Thought about clamping off each side then cutting the crossover in the center and then replace it with a new line.

i get a piece of hose of same dia. of cross over. cut about a 2 inch section and plug one end. also a piece of hose that will fit over the crossover hose.....put my cig out on the floor. the tricky part is pulling one side and putting the plugged hose on that barb, while holding my finger over the free end that is leaking gas. aim the hose into the container or put the longer hose on. i remove the hose from the petcock and put my hand vacuum pump on the vacuum barb on the valve.

Well that is what I kind of did except I put a fuel line clamp on one end then pulled the other side off. The problem occurred when I tried putting a drain hose on the open side. Danmmmm thing would go on and I was dumping gas all over the lift and floor. That is when I got the idea of pinching them both off and cutting it.
What does the vacuum pump do, create a vacuum in the tank and not allow it to drain as fast when you pull the crossover line off.

I always siphon as much as I can, then I put a small vise grip on on side and pull the other and stick a small plugged hose on it.

This is my first time pulling the tank, what fun. :) I think I spilled about a quart of gas. :cussing: Plus they had those funky clamps on the hoses had to use a pair of cutters to get em off.

I like my tank that does not have two sides to it. That and I really like my gravity fed petcock, works real slick, just turn the fuel off, pull line from CARB, point hose in bucket, open valve and let drip till empty. :D

Change petcock to pingle - non vac operated
when it's on it's on.... plus they look better..

Then you can put a 5 gallon on the floor or stand and run the fuel
line into it and drain it. I lift the front of the tank a little
to keep fuel to the back.

EZ Flow makes one for FL's but not softails..

Also what you can do is take some fuel line hose and when you pull it off the
tank slip on the hose up front at the crossover and let it drain to the can as well.

You are going to spill fuel..

the 09 and up have eliminated that cross over...
