Went to a 95 incher on my 05 TC88, here's a dumb question to ask, is it common for gas mileage to from 50 mpg's to 42 mpg's, I know when we used to race bikes sometimes when we did a big bore we'd have to actual jet it down a size because it was so much more efficient. Bike is carbureted with CV Performance parts.
Bike runs good and plugs show good, just asking if it's common to lose almost 20% mpg.

Another problem that I have been having is brake related, I keep getting air in the rear brake line, it use to only happen when I go up in altitude and then come back down, the past few weeks it is happening pretty regular when just riding around. My friend the service manager at Outpost HD said he'd look at it on Sunday when we go for a ride. I'm thinking caliper or master cylinder needs rebuilt. 65,000 miles on system, I went to braided lines about 5 years ago.

When I did the big bore change on my 2002 Ultra Classic the mileage stayed about the same. The difference is that I have FI. No help on the rear brake.

If you did nothing to the rear brake then it's either in need of a rebuild, or,
you have a loose fitting, if not leaking, perhaps a bad caliper seal on a piston
or a warped rotor, that can really show up when you are in the mountains using
a lot more brake than on the flats.

As to the mileage - is the bike more fun to ride? Lot more power? do you crack the whip a little harder now? Ride a little faster, meaning the wrist has a lot to do with it.

Haven't cured the brake problem yet, have some parts coming to rebuild the wheel cylinder and the master cylinder.

As for the mileage issue what I have done is replaced the cv performance needle with a thinner needle (NJ Sprotster needle?). My reasoning was jetting seemed to be fine, so with a thinner needle it allows more fuel in at less throttle opening, and since it is a thinner needle and the jet is the same I haven't leaned it out. The idea came to me from back in the past when we where racing and we'd adjust what ever we could to get more out of a motor. I had this needle in before the hop up was done and got excellent mileage with it then.
Bike is running great and the mileage on the last 2 tanks have improved to right at 50 mpg, yesterdays 250 mile run was slightly over 52 mpg, all mountain riding.

    thanks for asking, cowboy.

Rebuild the master cyl. It's the only one that sucks.
