    Hi
    Rear belt pulley sprocket
I know the results of the five studs shearing and the pulley spinning on the axel at 85 mph whilest passing an 16 wheeler (God knows I was lucky) What I would like to know is what has caused this too happen. All five studs sheared inside the thread about a 5-7mm.
I am running a Fat Boy solid rear wheel on my Heritage and have done so for the last four years.
    Any ideas might be helpful.

How hard are you on the throttle? I can't imagine hole shots being the reason for the bolts shearing off like that, that's alot of force. Glad you're Ok though!

I was thinking repeated twisting of that pulley and wheel could weaken those bolts and eventually cause a failure but damn, I would think it would take a long time for that to happen. I can't think of anything else.

I have a 99 Fatboy with an oversized tire on a stock wheel. I have done my share of hole shots and have yet to see any bolts sheer after 31,000 miles. I would have to think you got some soft bolts somehow.

i am inclined to believe that the bolts loosened up a bit, and over time....sheared. checking the tightness of bolts, nuts, ect it all part of maint. and it is kinda fun, while sipping an adult beverage, listening to the tunes!!!!:)

Either extremely over torqued like with a air impact, or bolts were loose.

I'd have to side with Chuck, probably one got a bit loose, and over time helped loosen the others with the forces from riding and hole shots.

I've seen it happen on a stock fatboy, got lucky it didn't lock up the rear wheel while he was on the mountains in NC>

That would be revving the motor to about 4000rpm and then letting the clutch out, then trying to keep the front wheel on the ground! :D I'm sure you call it something different across the pond, but it's all the same result. :D

    Hi V
I Should have known. No not my style mate. I have taught my good lady and both my sons too ride and have always preached "Show offs fall off;) " So it must be down to just dam bad luck on the chrome bolts. Back to standard bolts from here on :chopper:

:roflmao: I will definately have to remember that one. Sorry for your troubles, and hope you get it all worked out. If nothing else you learned this simple Hillbilly some things. First Don't Show Off if you don't want to Fall Off, and second skip the chrome bolts on important parts. Appreciate ya for that.
