Rear master out of whack

    Okay, re worked the brakes on my 98 Fatboy. The front went off without a hitch. The rear breaks will not pump up pressure to get any pedal. I have bled thoroughly and they will not pump up. This bike has after market forward controls with a remote reservoir between the down tubes on frame. The master cylinder cartridge body spout, with the hose that goes to the reservoir, is coming out of the side of the master cylinder. The book says that this spout should come out of the top. I'm sure that this is probably where the air pocket is causing the problem. I don't know if there is room to mount properly or how whoever did this bled the brakes. I'm at work now and found this out in the service manual. Any ideas? There are no fluid leaks anywhere.

    guessing here.....the new mastercylinder was probably pre bled on the bench before installing. may have to do that again.

    what about a mini hand pump vacuum like i needed to drain my gas tank? i bought one at auto zone for $30. you would be able to connect it to the bleeder screw and pull the fluid through the line, right? I hope i'm not saying something stupid but i know they do it with cages....

    harbor freight sells hand brake bleeders for 20 bucks with all the necessary fittings and hoses........

    Turns out the hose came out at 45 degrees from top instead of 90. I tilted the bike over with help and bled with a vacuum pump. Stood it back upright and bled some more and the pedal finally pumped back up. Thanks for the help. The vacuum pump from the auto parts store is a good investment and worked great, about 35 bucks. This had me worried for awhile. Thanks again.

    Master cylnder question

    I am partially HCP and can not use the front brake and throttle at the same time. My question is there a kit that allosw one to use the rear master and a resevoir to opperate both front and back? I miss my ride!
    Your posts are informative and seem to be on the mark. I am also new to the forum and hope this is in the right place.

    Wow....don't know about that scenario. I'm sure that it can be done by somebody, hell they might even have something out there already. Somebody else has to chime in, there's alot of smart people on this board....good luck

    yes they are available....they incorporate a proportioning valve in the twin brake system.....i will see what i can come up with, other will probably chime in also!!!

    honda has this system available on their bikes. i havent seen one aftermarket. a good mechanic, with knowledge of brake systems could probably copy their system if a schematic and service manual were available, to build one for your bike. or adapt hondas system to your bike. just because your limited in movement, you should not be penalized for it..........jmo
