Have a question about rear wheel alignment. I'm new here and this will most likely be the first of several questions, so here goes. I have a chain drive, rigid that I recently tightented the chain on to remove some slack. In doing so I started wondering how someone makes sure to align the rear wheel. Balancing the wheel is not the issue but making sure the wheel is tracking correctly. Is there a gauge of some kind, a measuring device or just using the old eye. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't think I'd trust the old eye...if there are no notches or marks in the slot for your axle adjuster, use a tape measure, find a reference point(ex. end of frame)and measure to the center of your axle on both sides...
The way I used to do it to be close before I measured was...do a full turn or two on the chain side, then do the same on the other side...keep that up until you have the chain where you want it...

i think measuring from the end of the frame wont work....i believe one of the tabs is longer than the other, i could be mistaken. i would measure from the seatpost support, mid frame. lucifer is spot on about marking the center and finding a good place to measure from, that is the same on both sides of the machine.......

that'a the way I do it, I use the center of the swing arm bolt to the center of the axle.
never understood why harley didn't put knotchs on the frame.

Thanks guys, I'll find a reference point somewhere and start measuring. Thanks again.
