Removing stock slip-ons

    Is there any ticks to removing stock pipes? that is .. without damaging else? I have loosen and removed all nuts and bolts but all I can get is a wiggle . Do I need to remove the lead pipe from the cyclinder head? Or can I muscle on it . Any sprays that will loosen it? Thanks

    You didn't say which type of bike & I'm going to assume from the title of your post you're not wanting to take the pipes from the engine off, just the mufflers off the pipes. Not fun to get off a Sportster, Dyna, etc., but "PB Blaster" is the best spray "liquid wrench" type deal I've used for stuck parts. Wrap an old towel around the muffler & squeeze down with a big set of ChannelLock pliers & wiggle some more - works for me.

    If you pull the pipes themselves (pull the mufflers 1st) then you'll want to get new gaskets for where the pipes meet the cylinder heads. Can't say about BT's but for Sportsters the "Screamin' Eagle" gaskets are better - just have to make sure they're seated right.

    Use a good penetrating lube and make sure you spray all along the muffler's slip on opening and also into the split in the compression pipe that runs back from the opening. let it set so it will penetrate. Then wiggle it up/down and side to side as you pull back on the muffler. Some of them are stubborn, bet I haven't had one that wouldn't come off with enough lube and persistance.

    Ditto to PB blaster!.This is the best penetrating spray I've ever used.You could also apply some heat to the clamp area via a heat gun & wear some type of cotton/leather gloves for protection.Give the muffler a slight twisting motion as you pull on it.

    My Procedure, put bike on lift first strap it down if you are going to tug on stuff.
    then

    1) Light good cigar
    2) Open Beer preferrably Guinness
    3) Remove nuts n bolts while taking a few puffs on cigar
    4) Sip Beer
    5) Get liquid wrench, wd-40, some lube stuff, sip beer, puff cigar
    6) Get second Beer
    7) Watch penetrating lube penetrate, sip more beer, puff more on cigar watch Pinks on Speedvison
    8) Drink more beer, puff more cigar, remember I'm working on bike.
    9) Go take a leak
    10) Get more beer,
    11) Wiggle pipes off, if stubborn whack the muffler up by the connection with dead blow rubber mallet
    12) If really stubbord, cuss, puff cigar, drink beer, more lube, watch pinks all out.
    13) Whack the muffler body with rubber mallet and pull on and wiggle muffler, then it comes right off.
    14) Do same for other muffler, puff cigar.
    15) Watch Michelle smiths hooters move in cut down shirts on Speed American Iron,
    16) Puff, drink puff,
    17) Put new mufflers on, remember clamps go on first, take new mufflers off, put on clamps, slide mufflers on use Copper Permatex to seal them
    18) Look for bolts n nuts, find I'm at the fridge, get another beer
    19) Puff on cigar or if done, light another, take a sip of beer
    20) Tighten up stuff
    21) Look at clock, see it's after 11, figure I'll start it tommorrow.
    22) Sip beer, smoke cigar and surf Discovery, Speed, History, look for kool old movie on TMC or AMC, stay up to late, bitch and moan go to bed.
