Replacing Grips

    I've been riding since 1966 but never changed handlebars before. I bought a pair of baby apes for an 02 Sportster. How do I get the left grip off the old drag bars? I assume the right one will separate when I unbolt it. I would really appreciate any advice.

    Usually the left grip is held on by some kind of glue. You will need to work it back and forth to get it off.

    Welcome to the forum.

    Step 1 is to always get the number one tool, the service manual.

    The left grip is held on by glue and most times is more work than it's worth. Stock type grips are not expensive.

    The right grip is bonded to the throttle sleeve and once the adjusters are collapsed, can be removed but don't loose the ferrules.

    Don't forget to lube the new bar under the throttle sleeve.

    Also, don't skip step 1.
