Revtech 6 Speed

    Is there anyone that can tell me about the quality of the Revtech 6 speed? I am looking to put a six speed in my 06 nighttrain and I have been comparing prices and the Revtech is quit a bit less than Baker, Jims, & SE. I was just curious why.:confused:

    don't know much about them but i do know that sometimes you pay for their name, and the quality is the same. I would check to see where it's made, I don't buy stuff made in china if I can help it. I like stuff made here, even if it costs more. I know, not very smart but what can I say?? I'm sure if you search the internet, you will be able to find comparisons on all 3

    I really believe in the old saying, you get what you pay for. I heard the workers at the Nike shoe factory build the Revtech 6 speed on their breaks and lunches. But hey, I hear all kinds of stories. I'm with Voodoo, I try to buy American whenever possible. It may cost more, but in the long run it's going to cost us all alot more buying foreign products.:soapbox:

    i did a quick search on them, couldnt find any comments on problems, but found on one place that said the gears are made in russia??? dont know for a fact tho.....good luck on the search,,,,,

    There have been many threads here and elsewhere talking about quality issues with Revtech. JMHO, but if you go through the trouble of upgrading I'd make sure it was with a product with good support. Baker may cost more, but at least with them you know that they back their products. Some things just aren't worth going cheap on.

    Another thing to consider is resale value. If you install an inexpensive major component it may not help if/when you decide to trade-in or sell your bike some day. Quality parts are just a worthwhile investment all around.

    REvtech makes a decent motor, and the gearset looks decent enough.

    They are made overseas and that's why they cost less.

    Baker makes a good setup JMO no way a 6th gear is worth $2500, I just don't see the value for the dollars spent unless you spend all day riding at 70+ MPH it's never going to pay off.

    The only benefits I see are the closer gear ratios and the final overdrive that reduces 300 to 400 rpm off.

    But is that really worth $2500.

    I just rebuilt my 5 speed in the 00 as the trap door bearing area failed letting the bearing and mainshaft walk when the clutch was engaged

    I put on a Jims billet trap door, nice piece, and new cage bearings and clips in the trans. Works great, I was looking at 6 speeds to replace the set in case I needed to do so but couldn't find a reason to do so.

    One shop I know of puts a lot of them in stock bikes (Rev Techs) nothing wrong with them and they perform well, it's been said they wouldnt' be a good choice behind a big stroker motor but who knows.

    Baker or bust - if I did the 6

    I'd say if you have an upsized-TC or a 95"+ it is probably worth a 6 speed. What the heck, you may as well get more for your money that you've already splurged. But from my previous research when I was looking at the bigger engine/6 speed tranny upgrade (before my sanity returned) I had determined that the Baker 6-speed (the improved one, that is - not the first in the series, though I think they covered them all through warranty action) was what I was gonna get. It was over a year ago when I had the "bigger is better" whim, and things may have changed, but I did note that Baker had a superior product and stood behind it all the way back then.
