Helping a veteran get back on his ride. The problem is he's lost his left arm serving his country. I'm attempting to create a right hand drive by putting the controls on one side. The clutch & brake I have figured out. It's getting all the electrical components on 1 mount, plus keep it user friendly. Any suggestions?

    Good to hear

    Mekanic44,
It's good to hear that you've already got ideas about how to modify the ride. I think it's great that CD and AFNurse have been working to get the bike modified for one of our soldiers, and it's great that guys like you are taking time to make it happen.

Regarding your questions about electrical components:

I'm not sure what configuration his sporty has, but on my Softail the left side switches are the horn, left turn signal and the hi-low beam switch.
Would it be possible to change the horn and the hi beam to foot switches that are mounted down by the left foot? Can the turn signal be changed to a three place (left, off, right) rocker switch mounted on the right hand side where the current turn signal is located?

What is your idea for the clutch and brake?

    SISK

The difficult things I'll do right away, but the impossible things will take a little longer.

    Mekanic44,

AFNurse let me know you are on the case so to speak. Please go over your layout plan for the clutch, shifter and brakes so we can all be on the same page. That will make it easier to figure out what is left.

    Thank you for your efforts.

Seems to me you could change the control for the turn signals over to the one used on a buell, it's a push pull switch with a center punch cancel button so he could do it with his right thumb for either direction.

I would look into hd police catalog for the switch that is used on the left that is in the clamp that holds the clutch cable housing and lever on. It has a small red button that could be wired into the high low beam or for the horn.

You could mount it on the right replacing the C part of the clamp to the master cylinder and it's done.

For the horn get a micro switch from Radio shack or a button from any auto parts store/jc whitney that you could wire into the horn wires and then attach to the bottom of the C clamp hanging down.

What did you do for the clutch shifter/thottle?

There is a company that makes an air shifter that I have seen in the magazines in the back, that way you could shift with the foot and keep his right hand on the controls.

Here is an image of the RK police model, I forgot that they have extra buttons at the bottom the red switches too, so you can wire more control options in there.

I would have to look I don't know if I have the police housings around anymore from my 98 RK however the switches are long gone.

You can pick this stuff up at any hd swap meet cheap! Housing and switches are always take offs, check even with a local dealer that sells police hd's after the leases are up or check with the local motors at the LE they may have a spare set from a wreck you can have.

BTW the item for the c clamp with the switch is not shown in this picture, I had one but I doubt I still do, I'll look.

You can see the red switch on the bottom of the right control from a cop bike, you can probably wire it to the turn signals and keep the cancelling module active. Then with the c clamp switch, do the high low and all you'd need is a horn button.

Now if you try and run the wires in the bars you'll need 2 inch diameter bars LOL.

So you might run the right controls inside the bar and the left controls under the bar using the stock wiring harness just swap it over to the right side under the bar and mount like stock.

Checked my old RK stash, all that stuff is gone, all the police parts etc, sorry. But these should be cheap at any swap meet.
