Can anybody out there tell me if Rinehart true duals are really loud if you run them without baffles? I want a really loud and mean sounding exhaust system for my 2004 Road King Classic but want to retain the look of an exhaust under each bag. Tried Vance& Hines Ovals but their sound is to tame for my taste and their sound with the baffles out is not a great sounding loud. I need LOUD!!! I know all the disadvantages of lower torque, etc. but I will sacrifice horsepower for a great sounding loud. Thanks!

You must live in a really friendly area:D . Many places are clamping down hard on noise and the '06 EPA rules will make it even worse.

If you remove the baffles they will be loud, performance will suffer but it sure will be loud. If you want that loud, why not use Samson drag mufflers on your V&H true dual headers? I have heard them and they are surely one of the loudest out there.

Besides, the cost will be a lot lower than trashing a set of perfectly good headers.

I agree with CD. Removing those baffles and your performance is really going to go down the drain. There are plenty of good and loud pipes out there that perform as well as being loud. Being louder may seem like your going faster, but we all know the answer to that. Please, just don’t buy drag-pipes.

Thunderheaders has a set that comes with a falsie left side for the look you want....they still are one of the better performing pipes...and by all accounts they are VERY LOUD!...You might wanna look at them. :D

Thanks for the help, but I am not going to be drag racing anybody. If performance was what I was after I would just buy a Susuki Hyabusa for around $11000 and save myself a whole lot of money! Im after attitude(bad) rather than acting like some yuppie trying to pose as some kind of badass weekend biker. You know, FTW! By the way, whats wrong with drag pipes? Thanks.

Ohhh...so its the yuppie biker segment that is putting their money into motors and pipes now instead of chrome. I guess I was too busy riding the wheels off my bike to stop and see how to ACT like a badass, FTW, biker   Whatever.

Seems to me the guys out their rapping their pipes out at the stoplights...running drag pipes are the only "posers". I see them all the time running from bar to bar....averaging a whopping 250 miles a year or so.

Ya know, me thinks you need to step back about 3 feet and pull that foot back out of your mouth. You say you are after "attitude (bad)" and then acccuse others who do the same as being "yuppie type" makes very little sense to me.

P.S Don't forget your shiny new leathers and Doo Rag.

    Loud Pipes

It's the people with the F.T.W. attitude with the open pipes and lots of noise that have brought so much pressure to bear on the whole motorcycle community. For me, a good performing muffler and head pipe will always out perform most of the loud, obnoxious attention getters. I'd rather slip past everyone relatively unnoticed and blow by the guys who I cannot stand listening to for more than a few hundred yards. I'm looking forward to 2006 when I'll get to install new exhausts for all of the posers and then they'll be off to the next fad, maybe paint sets or actually building a balanced engine that will perform under the conditions the rider normally operates. For the garage statues, maybe a fiberglass replica will suffice.

The only time that your drag pipes would be doing you any good is the very riding that you ain't gonna do. Not wanting to flame here but it doesn't seem to add up to me. I'm more of a WFO than a FTW kinda person and WFO is probably the only place where a drag pipe would work..assuming you pick the right length. Drag pipes sound raspy. Thunderheaders are plenty loud and work once you get past the dip below 3000 RPM. They also sound better. Rineharts don't do a lot for me. They seem to be the flavour of the month up this way. Call me silly but I'd really hate to spend money to put something on my bike to make it work worse.

    Pipes

I haven't really seen many aftermarket pipes that aren't loud when you wack the throttle. That's probably why the Harley dealers around here won't give out inspection stickers without Harley brand pipes on the bike. Some are definately louder than others but drag pipe loud is going out in these parts because of too many illegal exaust tickets being doled out. I know I don't want to be pulled over, again, on the way to the local convenient store, or even worse, on the way home from the local Poker Run.

If you really want loud, try some of those Jesse James WCC Hell Bents pipes. They're about the loudest I've ever heard. Oh, there is a problem though. They cost over $1000 because of all the "yuppie posers" that watch the Discovery channel buying up so many of them.

    Loud Pipes -------

I'm not sure about these Evo Motors, but when I put together my 1200 Shovel, I went with long Drag Pipes in the smaller diameter and jetted accordingly. They were plenty loud, plus the noise was not directed right into my ear.

By the way the long, small diameter pipes I used were after market and not expencive, Custom Crome or something like that.

    Alternate to new pipes

    Bill,
To fix the attitude thing and the need for loud, you could always just NOT buy new pipes, SELL the scooter, BUY an entertainment surround sound system along with the movie Easyrider, put ALL of your leathers on and sit down in the comfort of climate control, and just IMAGINE your'e a biker!?!
I think it's time to re-think what you hastily put on the site....

I'm impressed with the hair splitt'in, word winn'en, about the question relating to tweek'en this guys pipes. So far maybe you can stick to the Guys Question about pipes, instead of peel'in on WORD CHOICE. Just remember, YOU had trianing wheels on your plastic SCOOTER at one time also. Next we'll hear about Ride - Drive!

    Not The Yuppie

I can see that Ive pissed off some of the Yuppies out there (probably still pissed off about the Hayabusa that blew their doors off last weekend after they just spent $20000 on their motor). What brought on a lot of the heat on noise are the yuppies and rednecks that have bikes nowadays( lots of bikes, very few real bikers). See ya!!!! FTW!!!!

I figure anybody who could write something this ignorant can't be far out of high school...if he ever graduated to begin with. His words just seem to convey someone young, cocky, uneducated, and basically full of sh*t. This guy won't know a real biker till one shows up and kicks his ass!

An ass kickin' is probably what he's out for. Who knows, maybe that's what gives him a riser!?! I think I saw him on that movie, "Police Accademy". Remember the bar scene, The Blue Oyster? He was one of the guys in leather. I really believe he's just out to "stretch" his new skins. Watch yer ass pardner, the world is a smaller place than you'd think!

MAN! I go to the field to train for a copal o weeks and I miss all the excitement! A yuppie is educated beyond his intelligence and a redneck, according to Jeff Foxworthy, is someone that has a glorious like of education. Uneducated does not mean Dumb. There is nothing glorious about this guy. He’s just a dumb ass. Obviously if he is still asking how to make a HD loud he hasn’t been riding or been around bikes long enough to be a REAL biker.

PS what do I have to do to be a real biker anyway? Long hair is out because I’m in the Army. I could get a tattoo but when I get my wife’s paid for I’m going to get some more parts for the bike, so what can I do? heehee
