I have a 2002 Road King EFI - when I start it up and run it down theup though, street, runs fine. If I go on the highway and get off at an exit, it dies at the stop sign every time. If fires back no problem, also cold starts are fine. Idle is fine. Sometimes it dies in stop & go traffic (at the 'stop'). It seems that if I open it up (like on the highway) and then scale back, it dies. I have an open air box and a power commander.

Any ideas why this happens and what to do about it?

    Thanks.

Is it dying during the motion (deceleration) of a stop, at a complete stop, or upon acceleration from a stop? If during motion, it could be as simple as a connector. My non-EFI 99 King has one that will get moved around under the seat, and it has loosened up and caused electric problems before. I'd recommend getting some electrical cleaning spray and open, clean and reattach any harness connections.

Don't stop, ride back home LOL

Take off the PC and go for a ride see if it happens, eliminates that, or, points to
    the connection being bad....

Sounds like a bad main breaker, gets hot, then shuts off power

IT was upgraded to a 40 amp maxifuse to get rid of the problem
    replace the main breaker..

Hi, would you please be more specific on the main breaker? On the main breaker, I could run it all day long on wide open but when I go to stop, it shuts off. I can start it back up again, no problem. Thanks for your help.

there is a main circuit breaker on these bikes,
I forget but the replaced it with a fuse to get rid of the
problems, Ultras, RK,s RG's softails etc.

Pull the cover over fuses if you see a large 40 fuse
then you don't have this problem

If you don't then in front of the battery (you have to remove it)
there is a two post 40 amp breaker, when they get old and tired
they can trip, causing a loss of power.

Typically everything shuts off, lights, gauges, engine it's goes dead.

Turn off power, wait, turn back on, resets breaker and it fires up..

If that's not it then you have several other things to look for, but
I'd check my ground cables, make sure they are in good shape and
    connected properly.

Thanks. When it stops, it stops idling, not everything goes off. It idles fine as long as the throttle is open. I checked and it's not the fuse as you describe above. What now?

Don't take this the wrong way, but why not ride to a dealership and ask the head mechanic? They often know what the problem is right away and will tell you straight out, if you're cool about it. Good luck.

Is an '02 RK Delphi or MM fuel injection?? Ok quick search ...it's Delphi....Possibly the IAC is clogged and the pindle isn't extending or retracting

They're Delphi and the IAC plugged or bad sounds like a good guess

And a guess is all it is....if your crankcase breather is still routed to the intake, cleaning it is not a bad idea on regular maintenance...stick a rag in the throttle body mouth and take a can of carb cleaner with the little plastic hose on it and spray up in the hole with the ignition off and do it again with it on

    1) have you removed the power commander yet and test ridden it?

Without HD scan tools and not being there it's harder to diagnose. Take it out
if it fixes it, problem solved RNR the PC unit. If it continues, put the power commander
    back in and move on.

2)If it dies when the throttle is closed does it die 100% of the time.
If yes then it's probably related to the TPS, Remove the air cleaner
get some brake clean and clean every part in there (don't take them out)
just spray them clean, wipe down hold open throttle blade and wipe edges
    clean and around the TB.

    3) Check for intake leaks with a propane tank, get it warmed up and at idle if
it will hold idle. then open up a propane torch, unlit and hold up to the front, then rear intake seals, if the idle changes, time to get new seals.

    4) If it does it when hot only, perhaps the Engine Temp Sensor is bad or going bad.
