Tried Honda cleaner on my road king FLHR rims didn't work to well. Tried some chrome rubbing compound didn't help much either. Will the chrome compound hurt the wheels I know you will probaly think this is a dumb question.

Are you using aluminum polish on chrome and chrome polish on aluminum? I like to use Mothers for all of these things. I hope you aren't talking about putting the polish on the rubber?????:banghead:

Most likely aluminum. Try the Mothers product line, I think that you will be happy with it. I am. :)

If the rims are silver in color but show white-ish or dark ish spots, most likely the clear coat on the aluminum has worn off and your getting oxidation in the aluminum. The fork legs get the same problem when they are aluminum. Does this sound like a possiblity??? If so, on the silver (aluminum only) you can use "Simichrome" or Mothers "Metal Polish" to polish the aluminum. A buffer wheel on a drill does the trick and makes the alum. shine like chrome BUT BUT BUT you have now made it a routine thing. The products have a very fine abraisive in them and will remove all the clear coat.

JohnnyBiker, I've been told to go easy with the Mothers Metal Polish on chrome because it removes some of the chrome each time it's used. Even when hand rubbed.?!? What do you think??

Chip Fooose says it 's ok

I use the liquid mothers aluminum or chrome on the small
powerball on the drill, no reason to work your hands
    up on this stuff.

Apply the cleaner/polish and then wipe clean..

    WOrks like a charm..

Reminds me time to clean the wheels..
