Wouldn't hurt to buy a manual. It would help you a lot.

You need a clean gas can to drain the gas tank.
It can be drained at the petcock.
Pull the seat and the tank.
After you pull the tank its pretty easy to pull a rocker box and replace the gasket.

blackbeard if you can get the parts manual as well , it shows exploded views , & has a list of all parts #s on each page well worth the extra few bucks ,& the rocker boxes are two pieces as well , also pay close attention to how the gaskets come off they will fit two ways & only one is right & if you go door # two it blow oil every were , seen a guy do it Not me I fixed it for him :D

That tank comes off as a single unit. It isn't a big deal to remove it if it is a carb bike - but I don't know about the EFI stuff. You WILL want the manual, though, as there are wires under there that you need to be careful about.

    It's a simple job,

    1) Pull Seat, remove from bike,
    2) Turn off fuel at petcock
    3) Disconnect Neg battery cable (standard legal disclaimer)
    4) remove dash 1/2 inch nut lift dash, Place towel on rear fender and
over battery, lay dash on towel.
    5) Remove Overflow hose from tank if present (efi for sure)
    6) Disconnect fuel line from carb, loosen clamp and remove fuel line from carb (watch the connection it's plastic and can break easily, if you break it get the brass replacement (you might want to do that anyway)
    7) Loosen nut on choke cable (you can do this step when you turn off fuel as you are by it then, lower choke cable
    8) remove rear torx bolt from tank mount.
    9) Place towel over front rocker to prevent marks
    10) remove crossover (cuss spit, bitch and moan as fuel spills everywhere) If you have a pair of needle nose locking pliers lock down the crossover, just remove one side, cover tit on tank with rubber stopper, finger, whatever.

    11) Disconnect fuel gauge connector (plastic) under left side of tank.

    12) pull tank back to remove and then lift from the front to tilt fuel back

    13) When putting tank down you want to be sure the tit and hose are not leaking.

    14) Do not smoke!
