Here is a question I've just got know the answer to. Why is it that in the climate I moved from which is 25 feet above sea level both my bikes spark plugs were a nice golden brown. The climate I moved to now is 384 above sea level and my plugs are as white. Aren't I supposed to be runnin richer as I goes up? Thanks

Could be the source of fuel is different. Different additives and ratios

300 ft isn't going to make any difference in rich or lean, probaly the fuel as mentioned. we go 300 ft difference from one end of town to the other.

I did notice that both bikes are pinging a little. That's what made me check out my plugs in the first place. The one with a super G never ever pings unless its hot (like over a hundred and It's only in the upper seventies here). The fuel injected one is not as high compression on purpose so I wold not have the pre ignition fire blues. Should I worry about it. This state uses MTBE and Ethanol and I do use premium Gas (76 or chevron if at all possible) I don't like to use octane booster or is that even an option, I herd that stuff's not good on the sensors. Thanks.

Shoot I go up 600-700 feet just from town to get to my house and it runs the same. The gas now days really sucks and I have used some additives in the tank when it's been real warm out and climbing up over mountain passes.

Check at indy shops and dealers there are some good Octane boosters

Also be careful where you buy, find a station with high volume for
better turnover, find a place selling racing fuel, pop for a gallon or two
and see if the problem is solved..

I was thinkin the same 300 foot is nothin. I was just worried about the white plugs. I'll try some additives. Thanks

one other thing.......it is really difficult, at best, to read plugs with the type of fuel available to us. pinging on the other hand needs to be tended to.....

If you have some kind of a fuel management system (Power Commander, Harley Race Tuner or some other device) and your pinging then your have it set to lean. Lean conditions can cause a host of problems one of which is over heating. Mine was initially set to lean (Race Tuner) was pinging on acceleration and especially going up a grade so had it re-adjusted and no more pinging especially under a load. The gas mileage is still 42-48.

Yea.. Thats it..up hill and on acceleration. the dreaded "pingin blues" have got to go! Havin a race tuner with 113" ain't all good. This motor was set up with 10 to 1 compression instead of 10.5 to 1 because I was tryin my best to get away from the ping. Ran great till now. Been there done that with a high compression motor and fuel injection. It was a real job finding somebody that knew what they were doing with a dyno tuner that could make it run half right. When it got warm out I was using fuel additives and racin fuel. Like you said before a couple hundred feet is nothin and I only went up a couple hundred feet, All this because of the gas in this state?. If I want to have it re-adjusted to fatten it up means it's dyno time. The only one around here is at 1,066 ft elevation and I'm at 384. Ya think that would be a problem? I'm real leery of dynos and people that say they know what they are doing with them. Thanks.

Also. One size bigger on my main jet on the supper G ? Ya think I should go a step up on my intermediate also? Carburetors are so much easier to deal with. Then again. Like Chuck said it's hard to read plugs with the gas we have now. Thanks.
