]I',m going to put a set of drag bars on my '98 soft tail, and would like some opinions on what's the best way to go about this. For example: cutting the wires from behind headlight, or right from the controls, and to use wire housing or not and what kind of lube to use to pull through, if any at all. I am running front signals.

If your putting drag bars on it you might not have to lengthen the wires.

I just did my 01 Springer and had to lengthen those wires because I put 12.5 apes on it. If you cut recommend you stagger the splices that way you don't have a big bundle. Wouldn't recommend cutting at the controls. I soldered then applied a marine grade heat shrink, good stuff. You gotta be good at soldering as cold solders will break. I left the wire covering on mine and ran the whole thing down the bars. I used a real good spray cleaner polish on the wiring to slid it through. I ran some heavy bailing wire down the bars and pulled the cables down with the wire. Don't use any oil based products for lubing the wiring cable.

Good luck, have fun and take your time.

We did my son's bike & someone had already cut & put back together with butt connecters so we put a little axel grease on then & rerun them then wiped them clean & solder back & heat wrapped them we also used a skinne piece of wire look to keep the from rubbing raw
