Ok, here is what I got: '02 Dyna WG, stock as far as I know.
Supposedly running reasonable, then coming to stop light, started running rough, won't idle, black smoke out of pipes, black spark plugs.
1.Done so far: Diaphragm had a chunk out of the lip – replaced – no change.
    2.Intake manifold o-rings chewed up a bit – replaced – no change.
    3.Error code – 02 – MAP sensor – replaced – no change.
4.Took to dealership, had error code reset, seem to run ok, my opinion, it was idle to low.
5.Next morn, same problem as at beginning.
6.Dealership didn't say any problem with ignition module.
7.Changed spark plugs – no change.
8.Check coil – resistances ok – no change.
9.Someone hooked up LED lights – did terrible wiring in tail light – fixed – no change.

I think I have basically run out of options.
Anyone got a solution I haven't looked at yet?

    Happy Trails.....

Carb or FI? If carb check the float level and if the float valve is dirty or bad.

being a carb I would double check the float for a pin hole Or adjustment , just take it out & shake it you'll feel /hear it ,& if all the rubber parts are/where bad I would clean the carb real good , some realy small pieces can get into some holes you can hardly see

I have been through the carb, replacing the slide & diaphragm, checked the float level and checked all the jets. Blew out the passages, checked that the enrichner was closing, Checked the float, needle & seat for damage. Checked the float level. Changed the intake o-rings, changed the map sensor. Checked for vacuum leaks. Checked the slide for movement. Checked the butterfly for seating and movement. Tried a know good carb. Ran with & without a breather. Can't find any problems with the fuel system.

sounds like ya got the fuel and air requirements taken care of......i would check the ignition system......got to have 3 to run....fuel, air, ignition. check output of coil, wires, make sure the ign. system is not breaking down.

Plugs were supposed to be new, changed anyway. Coil meets specs. wires seem ok, Fixed some bad wiring. Had dealership reset #12 error code for map sensor. Took badlands led mod out of system, no change, put back in with proper wireing. Throttle responds ok, higher revs seem ok. just lower rpms seem to be problem. Presume that dealership would have said ign mod was problem when reset code. My belief that electronic mod either work or they don't, not sorta work. The only thing left is the ign mod, and it is an expensive part if not the problem.

You might also want to check this, if not then its got to be in the carb. I think from past issues that if something was wrong in the ignition it usually is more prominent when under a heavy load. Could be wrong but I would check this the CKP sensor and then go back to the carb.

If the CKP sensor (crank position sensor) ) goes bad on your engine which is located up front by the oil filter, You will notice slight hesitation just off idle and poor running as well as poor gas mileage. This is a magnetic switch that picks up an impulse from serrations that pass the switch in the edge of the flywheel. This switch is also a target for metallic fuzz that circulates in the engine oil just like what you find on the drain plugs when doing a service.
It's purpose is to send data to the ECM about the engine speed which interprets this and is used for proper data output for various purposes.

As with all sensors, age can effect their performance and this may be a gradual decrease until one day you realize that it just isn't running as good as it use to and you notice a hesitation off idle.
