I thought we were gonna get thru this hurricane season unscathed, wrong! Last year Irene hammered the island. No lectric fer 4 days. Picked up gas fer generator today. Full moon same time as the tidal surge means even more flooding. Monday Tuesday gonna be a interesting time here. Crap, just remembered, low a Jack. Gotta go, later men.

I live on a hill, about 100 feet above sea level. My place is safe although heavy rains will flood my low drive. We are a heavily treed town so the chance of losing power during high winds is great. Last year we lost power for three days. Here no electric means no gasoline pumps, no drinking water after a day or two. That's when I said never again and bought a 6000 watt generator and switch box for the house. They are now saying this storm could be "epic". Of course saying that makes good news! We shall see. Thanks for the thoughts!

Nah. If you buy gas for gen. Extra food and be prepared they either turn or get weak.

Tell me about it...Almost exactly a year ago...People a few streets away did not have power for a week...This could really suck...

Yeah, but where? The "danger zone is everywhere" as Ray Charles used to sing.

You know the old saying I'd rather be me than you well in Fatboys and Marc 55 case I'd rather be here than where they are. I know as soon as Fatboy can he is moving to AZ. No hurricanes, no tornadoes down there.

Thanks for the heads up on "Sandy". Didn't even know it was a situation until this thread.

Good luck and smart you for getting a generator early. We lose power so much up here I have a switch panel on my house and a 12 hours 10,000 KW generator, runs the whole house, no focking around here:Generac XG8000E WiseSales.com

If I knew I was staying here all my life I'd get one of those automatic hard wired to the house propane deals. They're worth it, up here anyways. Ever loose power in late December for 8 days when its 13 degrees out? Its bullsh*t!!!

Nobody cares about you and you are on your own. It's every man for himself up here. People all around you have solar and generators and not one person asks if you are okay.

I'm not a great guy by no means but as soon as I was hooked up and we had lost power again as I was riding by a neighbors house and they were outside I inquired if they were okay and if they weren't I now had a generator and they were welcomed over. I knew they were one of the snob aholes who were all set, had been all set and never cared if me or my family were. I just wanted to demonstrate how its done!!! You have to factor people suck in general to stay one step ahead.......in my opinion. I may not care, like or want to be around people but I will always lend a helping hand to anyone in need if I have it to give.

Just read up on "Sandy" and she is coming..she's shaping up to be yet another situation. Will be stocking up on gas for the generator too. Went grocery shopping Thursday morning and good to go on that.

Dont blame her, we don't get much for earth quakes here, yea there possible but possible anywhere. California gets em the worst. I wouldn't live there either.
Don't like big wind storms would not want to be in a Hurricane.
