What is the difference between the Harley manual and the Clymer manual? Is it just the price or does it pay to buy the more expensive Harley one?

The OE H-D manual is model specific and has more procedures covered in finer detail. The Clymer is a good manual but is generic in nature and often you will need the parts breakdown also.

The service manual and parts break down may seem expensive but, they are the best tools you can buy.

:) I got the HD manual for my 2002 Heritage Softail. I am very pleased with it. All detailed information on maintenance as well as other good pictures in case you have to troubleshoot and take things apart.

The HD manual is worth the money and if it saves you only one trip to the dealer, it paid for itself.

If you are going to keep the bike for a while and you like a little more detail or sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words the parts manual are handy. If your are ordering oem you are more likely to get the right part and also works for cross referance part #s. Dutch

    Manuals

    SLICKRICK,
As the other's recommended,The O.E. service manual will be one of the best & most
used tools you'll ever need.NOTE:I would also recommend you buy the O.E.
PARTS supplement manual...good for locating what you're working on & helps
    when ordering O.E. parts.

I have both the clymer and HD manuals for my bike...There is no comparison...The HD wins hands down. The only thing I've found that I like better of the Clymer is the wiring diagram which is in color instead of just labeling the lines with abreviations like brn/red etc....

You'd be surprised how much you'll learn. And...how much you've been paying for the things you'll be learning. It's almost sickening to find out about some of the procedures, and to find out that you paid them for what they looked up in the manual you are now reading!!

    Service manual

Are the service manuals only availible through the HD dealer? I think it's time to learn more about the machine I'm depending on to get me there and back. Seems like all I've done the last several months is put chrome stuff on this bike and we all know, chrome won't get ya home.(you know the rest of the line)

I've bought most of my factory manuals on ebay. Some are new, some used but you can save around $10 +/- vs the stealership. There are also some H-D sites that sell parts for up to 20% off msrp. Just my opinion.

I bought mine for $36 on Ebay new wrapped in plastic. But make sure you are getting the one you want, I bought the OE Harley one after the suggestions from the guys. The Clymer one is about $28.
