I'm in the same boat. From what I've heard we should start checking about 30,000. I've heard all kinds of numbers depending on use and oils. I have a little over 30k so this winter I'm checking. I know a guy who got over 75k on em and a other 33k.

Ps. I also understand that there is a run of cam chains that have sharp edges that wear the shoes very fast. One of the other bros will probably respond with that info. You may also search the "tech" talk thread and there should be more info for ya.

I spent some time researching this and asking questions on BT when my bike got near 30K. Read of problems as early as 20K or 25K, but seemed to be rare. Read one article where writer checked with 3 or 4 big Dealerships around the country. Different answers, but 30K came up a lot to start looking, not expecting shoes to be replaced that early.

Did see note several times that the inner and outer do not necessarily wear at same rate, outer easier to see, but can't depend on that.

I decided to go to the SE hybrid cam plate upgrade which has the newer higher flow pump as well. That being said, many more 06 and older bikes still running the original system than not with no issues, but at some point, gotta do something.

Have heard some say let miles per year dictate. 5K or less, replace the shoes and you got another 5+ years before you have to address again. I liked the newer oil pump and was gonna put a cam in anyway.

On my 01 Springer I changed mine to the SE system including oil pump upgrade at 40,000 and both shoes were worn down pretty good. So glad I did mine then. But have also heard and think its a good idea to check them somewhere between 30-40,000.
