Let me say right off that I have the service manual for my '77 shovel motor. Can't figure out if the shovel motor has a crankcase breather or not. I do see one threaded hole just to the left of the oil pump that might be where the chain oiler goes. Otherwise no obvious place for a breather hose to connect to. Does anyone know how this engine breathes and how to set it up . . . ?

Many thanks, Lucifer! The threaded hole I was wondering about does indeed turn out to be the crankcase breather. The top photo shows an oil pump like mine (stock) with the return & feed coming off the top of the oil pump.

Good info on that site - the write up on the shovel head engine is right on the money - probably why HD stopped makin it - they was wasn't gettin enough money back on repairs since every back yard mech could do his own work. Guess thats one reason I liked mine so much. :)
