95 883 drag pipes and k@n replaced leaking accel pump and bike won't rev out. Rebuilt carb four times now, switched out stock jet to 170 and it got a little better but still stumbles and don't run out right put your hand over carb throat and it freaking rips! WTF??:cussing:

I have a 96 Sportster 883 when it was stock. What is the pilot jet at? Mine was a 42. Did you completely go through the carb all 4 times? When I bought mine, my accel pump was bad..

sure sounds like your not getting fuel...170 must be your main jet, check your slow speed jet and float level, what kind of carb do you have?...Kenfuzed is the carb guru here ,I'm sure he will lead you in the right direction..

Waht do ya think Whacker? A 44 pilot should do the trick? Assuming that it is a CV.

have you checked for air leaks at the carb to manifold and manifold to heads connections?

Had carb of several times and has new boot do don't think that's it but have nit puked pugh mani, carb kit came with new gaskets for manifold but there rubber so didn't put on. Biker ran petty good before I changed pump so figured they good. Wondering if my mixture screw is off. Turned out two turns and tried to tune but don't think quite right. Guy before me had out screwed all the way in, figured to compensate for leaking pump.

Actually that might explain why one plug looks to be running rich all the sudden. They were both perfect before.

What is your idling speed at? I like to have mine idle at about 900-1100. I was going to say that those K&N filters work really well. what do have on for pipes? Stock? You could have a plugged muffler. Also check the clamps where the muffler mates with the pipe, could be off just a little.

What did the other plug look like (the one that doesn't look rich)?

far as I know the pilot is stock, think 42. Bike ran fine before I changed pump other than poor bottom end throttle response. Going home to try tuning procedure I found here, if that don't help I'll go to 44 pilot jet like johnnybiker recommended.

Copy that cowboy, I imagine if I pull manifold off I would pretty much need new gaskets. Our do you think I could reuse?

I have reused them once & it worked for a few months if you have new ones put them in , or at least double check have it running at idel & spray some Wd40 around them it makes a mess but if the idels changes there your trouble , do that befor you take the carb off again

Do you know how to recognize a leak without taking manifold off? I'm not seeing any fuel or anything on outside. Carb boot is new so I know that's good.

Let the bike idel & spray some wd40 around the intake where it goes into the heads & then where it hooks to carb if the idel changes it has a leak , A UNLIT propain hand held tank will do the same thing just not as messie

Right on, was thinkin of tryin that but with carb cleaner. I know it works good for vacuum leak detection. Got a set of rubber rings with carbkit that I assumed were manifold but they're rubber, thought they would be more of a fire resistant material. And they are more of a doughnut rather than flat gasket type. That sound right?¿
