I've got an 04 Sporty custom and the lowering kits that are sold for most sportsters are listed for XL's. In what little info I can find it sounds like it'll drop the XL by a bit but not much for a custom. It sounded like the custom was already pretty low and not much to gain from there. I'm not wanting a hardtail so I was looking at the lower shock kits. Any thoughts?

Are you vertically challenged like I am??? Doesn't your shocks have the ability to adjust the height of them???

if you lower the shocks to the lowest point you take the risk of bottoming out , like if you ride two up , The lower shocks them selfs are better

I'm 6' and 175, so its not a problem of reaching the ground and I'm not too worried about bottoming out as I mostly ride single. I just like to sit low, I even set my chair at the computer as low as it goes. I've adjusted my stock shocks as low as they go and would like to drop it more if I can.Say Chucktx, have you thought about selling the extra set?

Johhny, The adjust ment on the rear shock isn't for changing the height, it's a spring preload adjustment. Setting it looser makes the ride softer, bottoms out more and can get squirrelly in the corners.
A shorter shock will lower the bike and you can set the preload to keep the bike handling right.

That's fine, sounds like you had a good time on your trip. I know what it's like coming back, I tend to forget where I worked at  Was getting ready to go to the Outer Banks NC and was even thinking about renting a bigger bike out there. It'll give me a chance to try out a big twin and also I've wanted to ride along the coast. Can't wait.

I know, but for me I notice that when I have mine set to its softest point, it is a little easier for me to reach the ground. :D

Only because you're compressing the shocks more when you sit on it at the softest setting....it'll bottom out quicker and easier at that setting too.
