I have an '06 HD Sportster Custom (XL1200C) with the stock dual seat. I recently bought a solo seat off eBay from an '07 Nightster but sadly it doesn't fit. The dual seat has slot that engages a pin located on the frame but the solo seat doesn't accomodate. Is there a mod that I an do to the Nightster seat so that it fits or should I sell it and buy something else? I was looking at the LePera seats just not sue how they attach.

Here are two pictures. The first showing the stock (left) and Nightster solo seats and the other the stud on the frame that engages the bracket on the stock dual seat.

The seat I am running on my 05 XL883C does not use the seat post and I have had no trouble with it. It hooks under the tank bolt in the front and then simply bolts down on the back. Your solo won't be any different. My concern is more that a Nightster uses the 3.3 tank and the 1200C uses the 4.5 tank and the nose of the seats should be different. That is the big issue with the seats on the Customs. You can remove the clip from your threadsert that your 2 up seat bolts down to and move it foward to the front hole then relocate your black HD plastic plug in the rear hole. You should be fine if the front of the seat will fit the tank.

The seat won't fit due to two problem areas. The first is the stud on the frame, which can be resolved by using a Dremel tool to cut away some of the plastic from the seat base to clear. The second is that control box under the seat. The stock seat has a relief that allows it to fit while the Nightster seat does not. Not much room if any to relocate that box.
