I recently purchased a 1999 1200 Custom that will not start. The battery is fully charged, I checked the fuses, replaced the relay that is beside the fuse panel, checked the connections to the kill switch and starter button. Three of the four fuses in the fuse panel were blown, however, I changed the fuses and everything powers up without blowing any of the fuses but it will still not crank. There is a connection under the tank that is not plugged in but I wonder if it may be a connection for diagnostics. Any and all help will be appreciated.

    Thanks

Do you have any history on the bike? Is there any way you can find out when and how the problem started? The mention of the four blown fuses spooks me a little. It could be almost anything.

    Got a multi meter?

Check volts at the battery from pos to neg,
then check the cables, to the starter and ground to frame.

Make sure the ground to the frame is getting to metal, it must have a star washer under it or you won't get a good bite.

Then do a voltage drop test on the starter connections see if the bike is loosing power when you go to the starter, battery may show charged but can't maintain enough charge to crank it over.

Do you have a SM for this bike, if not pick one up it has all the diagrams and tests for these things and you can go step by step.

There should be a wire from the starter button to the starter, check it with the meter that will let you know if you're getting power from the switch.
