    i am changing out my original pipes with a set of Vance and Hines Big Radius which I purchased from Direct parts. I know that I need to do a stage one. i am not sure as to which air flow to go with and what is the dif. harley has the high air flow kit which has been recommended to me but are there others out that that are just as good or better. I am purchasing all my parts on line and taking them to the dealer to have them installed.

    Also I would like to change out my handle bars with a set drilled for my wiring. i would like to keep the same rise width and pullback. Maybe in a 1.25 or 1.5 inch diameter. Any ideas or suggestions. Thanks

    After purchasing my 2004 Road King Classic I installed a Screaming Eagle air cleaner and the Vance & Hines 2 into1 exhaust. I had them install the 95ci heads and pistons. These 3 items have increased the torque and over all power to the point of sh.ts and giggles. I would recommend everyone have these items installed if you have the extra money. Most of your top name after market air cleaners will produce about the same amount of performance so the final decision will be based on the amount of money you want to spend and the look you are looking for, just be sure to run a K & N air filter as your choice of air cleaner. As far as the after market bars I have always favored the chubby bars (1 1/4). the thing to keep in mind is you will have to change out the wiring, idle, throttle, clutch, and brake lines, also if you install the pipes and air cleaner be sure to adjust your carb with the right size jets or remap the EFI if your running this, the pipes and air cleaner will have the bike running leaner. I also recommend going with the braided cables (all) and chrome controlers to finish off the chrome look. Ride Safe David.

    Ness big sucker is a good kit as well and a bit cleaner install than the HD SE kit but I like the HD SE kit as well because it will fit the bike as designed. Actually both will fit well.

    Both flow well

    One thing you will need to get the bike tuned so a carb needs to be rejeted and EFI tuned to add fuel more than likely, or those pipes will be turning gold quickly

    Just how critical is the EFI tuning? I just put rhinehart true duals and the SE air cleaner on my 03 RK and my power commander wont be here for 5 more days.

    Heres an Idea for ya!


    As an Idea, have you looked into buying a service manual and doing this work yourself? Speaking from experience, these modifications are all pretty easy if you've got a halfway decent set of tools in SAE sizes. I had no experience working on any Harley before I bought mine and I've saved thousands and thousands of dollars labor doing things myself. I wouldn't think that the dealer would appreciate you bringing in parts from outside vendors since they are not making money off them...I'd be afraid they wouldn't do their "best" work since they weren't making as much money off the job. As a rule I try to save any serious work for winter months when it doesn't matter if the bike is in parts on the garage floor. :)
