I have been on here several time with similar issues and the tips have been great. My bike runs a little better with each tip I get and I am confident in removing the carb now as I never thought possible.I have a 2004 road king,S&S 510 gear drive cams,Screamin' Eagle ignition module,Thunderheader 2
;1 exhaust,Ness big sucker stage 2 ac,40mm cv carb with 195 main and 48 pilot jets.It runs really well up to about 95 or so mph. Then it seems to either run out of fuel /air,or bog from over rich condition-not sure which or how to determine that.It will sputter and just almost die out at that rpm range.I am at my wits end-I have put just about everything new I can fathom and welcome all the help I can get. Thanks,Ben

That would make it run the bowl dry I'm guessing,if the float is too low?

Just another question, do have any extra fuel filters like an inline or anything in the tank??? Have you cleaned your air filter or have you changed it lately? My scooter did that once and thought there was a huge issue and all it turned out to be was a dirty petcock filter and dirty inline fuel filter. I changed those out and my problem went away. At the time that I switched those out I also took the air cleaner out, cleaned and re-oiled it. Good until yesterday as now I need to do it again...Just a thought.

Johnny is right about looking at the petcock first. It may be clogged or not able to flow enough gas for high perf. motor. I'd replace it anyway with a new Pingle unit.

Also, check to see if your gas cap vent is still working. When it starts to sputter when riding it hard, pull over and open the gas cap. If you hear a big sucking sound, vent is bad. Replace gas cap.

What Alex is talking about is vapor lock. I too had this issue before I redided my engine last season. It would stall on me, and I was frantically trying to figure out what was happening, I would pop the gas cap, I would hear air escape and then I would turn the engine and it would pop right off.

I have a gravity fed petcock on and did at that time, not sure if is a Pingel, but I like it a lot....
