2003 883R with stage 1 mods - Big Sucker, CVP jet kit, Screamin' Eagel pro-pipe, Pingel fuel valve.

Bike stops running after 15 miles when oil temp reaches 200 in slow traffic or at a light. After sitting 5 minutes will start right up. Once instead of stalling, it started missing really bad similar to when a woodruff key breaks on an old point ignition dirt bike.

Removed timing covers rode about 40 miles around town with no problems, oil temp was in 215-220 range. Re-installed inner cover, problem came back.

    Think ignition is bad.

Ignition is bad. there is also a pick up coil under cam cover that could be bad as well. (Resign disintegrates and leaves it vulnerable to heat).

If it was the pick up sensor you uncovered and the bike ran good, then started acting up again when you covered it....there's your problem...the module is most likely fine...if the ignition module is still under the side cover on your Sporty, they don't get much heat there, but you can test it with a hair dryer...uncover both the pick-up and the module, start the bike, then heat them up with the hair dryer, whichever one your heating when it starts to act up is the faulty part...

Module and pick up are one integrated unit.
