Just did my stage one kit as advised by members of biker talk, can't find defined point between stumble and smooth idle and when I get to where I can blip smoothly if I twist it quick it falls on its face, :wtf:

    Need some more info first.
    Model/engine size?
    Jets selected from the kit?
How many turns out from seated did you turn the mixture screw (or EZ-just)?
Did you use the full kit or combine with other parts?

One of the most common causes of an off-idle stall is the accelerator pump not functioning or spraying when the throttle is twisted. Make sure the pump rod is in place after reinstalling the bowl.

Also, I have no idea what this means: "Forgot to mention all work that's been done so far is here @sick sporty" ???

motorhead,2 questions for you, when you twist the throttle, does the slide lift?? Do you get a good squirt of gas from the accelerator pump nozzle when you give it a quick twist??

Sorry ken, I did have a thread here called sick sporty that covers all that I have been thru. I have an 95 883 that first of all I was told by previous owner has the 1200 kit but not sure its true by the evidence I've seen so far or by the fact it gets 60mpg, anyway it does have a k@n with drag pipes. When I bought it the accelerator pump was leaking, I changed it and the bike ran worse than before! We then changed the intake manifold gaskets went thru fuel and vacuum system. Also when I went to begin low speed tuning I found mixture screw was screwed all the way in! I later found the o ring was missing from packing kit. Bike had 160 main and 45 slow in it when I started on it. I installed complete stage one kit using 170 main and 44 slow. Basically can't find definite sweet spot when tuning and falls on face when twisted quick. So I put 45 slow jet back in and was able to maybe get it to blip better but still can't seem to find sweet spot when tuning. I keep going back to 2 1/8 as my starting point but think when I was closest I was at 2 1/4. I have seen the slide function but have beem doing all my tuning with air cleaner on as I was told somewhere. Also I am certain accelerator pump is good, installed correctly and rod is in place since I've rebuilt carb probably ten times now and yesterday I removed float bowl again to double check accelerator pump.

This is weird. Was it you that also said that the rubber diaphram that sits on top of the carb was also torn?

I think that it is time that you first find out with no possibility of being wrong what it is that you have for a bike. An 883 or a 1200.

Just a thought, could it be possible that you have some other issue and not the carb? Do you still have the stock fuel valve on the tank? Are you using an in line fuel filter? How hard is it that you are twisting the throttle, could it possible that your VOES is going bad??

I think that you may want to look in other places other than the carb since like you said, your carb basically has all new parts in it..

When I tired with air cleaner off yes, otherwise since then I have only been tuning with air cleaner on as I was told either here or in manual our something.

Never had diaphragm torn. Not sure if fuel valve is stock but I have removed and cleaned it, seems fine. I thought I had a supply issue so removed fuel filter but want the problem. I don't think I'm twisting too hard but even if I twist slower it usually has same result. We tried testing voes with volt meter and when blowing into switch we did get a reading but not sure what or what it should be I just know that we got a reading

Do you know if there is a way to determine displacement without taking heads off?

I would check the VOES for vacuum as that is its primary function. It uses electricity to operate but creates vacuum. With the stock fuel valve, the springs can go bad because those are operated on vacuum as well. If I am not mistaken, you can check the amount of teeth that your final drive sprocket has. That will at least tell you how your bike is geared and should be able to tell you closer to what you got.

    VOES= Vacuum Operated Electrical Switch

So your sayin I should be able to disconnect voes and feel vacuum?

You will need a vacuum tester. It is measure in pounds of mercury. Only real way to see if it is operating correctly.

If the accelerators pump is working it will spray fuel when you twist the throttle even if bike is not running. If you're not getting a spray could be the diaphragm is not in working correctly.
