love my 06 super-glides stock pipes but it's way to quiet, do the baffles come out, or do i need to remove the mufflers and install slip-ons ????

The baffles can be cut out, but you will lose a ton of low end, and (depending on your location) will be asking for ticket for your friendly neighborhood Trooper. If you want to do it right, get a set of full pipes and install a Power Commander. Dont screw with a stage 1 download, its a waste of money.

I have a Street Bob with Python staggered duals. They are sweet sounding, and wake up the bike. I am planning on installing a PC as soon as I get the money. Dealer did a stage 1, then stage 2 download after the first was too lean. It runs better but has a cough/cold start stall. Now I have to pay an additional $150 to reverse the download to stock to run the powercommander.

If you plan on keepoing the bike for any amount of time, put the money into it and do it right the first time.

Cutting the stock baffles/cats out of the pipes is a bad plan. I would check into a nice 2-1 header or a quality set of duels. You will be much happier this way. Dont forget the airbox modifications also. The advice about the low end loss is sound. I'd follow it. Remember, pipes dont have to be LOUD to sound good and perform really good.

AMEN!!!!! Do it right the first time, and you will save a lot more (both money and sanity) than trying to save a bit with something you will not be satisfied with. If your not happy with it, anything you spend is wasted $.

"I'm still saving for my pipes.... noticed that you state not to do a download if you are adding a power commander. Didn't realize that.
I was going to have a download done before putting new pipes on, but, also want a power commander.
If I'm reading this right, you recommend not doing a download?

I appreciate all the wisdom on this site"

The 06 maps on the PC website are for stock ECM only. If you don't want to pay $250-300 for a custom map, you will need to keep the ECM at the stock level. Otherwise you will have to pay HD another $150 to reflash back to stock. This is the situation I am in now. Dynojet has several maps that will wokr on this and they are free to download, but if you have a stage 1 ecm, it will run too rich. Learn from my mistake. JMHO

Thanks for that info, yankeerl. I'm not ready to do the wife's bike yet but I'll definitely keep it in mind this winter when the time comes. Plan to do complete Stage I on her Low Rider then.

Save the $150 to reflash and take the powercommander to a reputable tuning center, spend the $150 on a custom map for your bike, you'll get better performance and mileage than doing a downloaded map.

Just because a map can be downloaded and it has your spec's doesn't mean it will run correctly or optimally.

Dyno Tuning is the best bet, you should be able to get it tuned in the $150 to $250 range, the powercommander allows the tuner to add and reduce fuel as well as timing, and other items. So it really doesn't matter if you have a stock or stage 1 or stage 2 flash.

Thanks, That is what I am going to do in the next month or so. But I wanted to offer a less expensive option for someone who has not started yet. this way they don't have to spend the $150 extra for something (stage 1) that is not needed.
