    Hi,
I wasn't aware that such a thing existed. Does anybody out there use stop light trigger devices. I always thought stop lights were triggered by weight, but, apparently they're triggered by metal and m'cycles sometimes don't have enough to trigger them.
I've had to drive out of a few stop lights because they wouldn't trigger.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

    stop lights

Many states allow you to proceed with caution through a red light is your motorcycle doesn't trip the sensor. I know the minnesota law says that after stopping for a reasonable amount of time you can proceed. A policeman told me a reasonable amount of time is a full cycle of the lights.

i have read a bit about the devices to trip lights.....they are a type of magnet. if mounted, keep them as far away as you can from electronics......they can mess with them

That's good info RG... My method so far has been to sit there until I just feel stupid.
I wonder if that rule is actually in the legal book somewhere, or just common sense.

Good point Chuck. I think they are supposed to mount on the bottom of the frame to keep away from any electronics.

i have heard from a guy who installs these, that if you clip two of the corners of the grid on the road there is a good chance it will trigger them. they used this type of triggering system for the gates in my housing community.

I've been told when riding american iron, you can help trigger a reluctant light by just lowering your kickstand to put some iron a little closer to the sensor. I admit I have tried it at a couple of poorly performing intersections; and it seemed to work.

By your post rose_guy, I assume you live in Minnesota. So whereabouts would you be? I'm in Mankato.

I avoid that Mall of America...Can you say overkill? :D Maybe if the entire complex were motorcycle shops I could find the inspiration to walk the whole thing :p

My brother lives right up that way in Savage. Just a quick jump on 13 to 169 and he's in bloomington in minutes.

    The green light thingy

Yea, I read about these neat little gadgets. Ambulances and fire trucks use them to cut the red lights. They are actually little transmitters. Many red lights are equipt with recievers tuned to the frequency of these transmitters. When they recieve a signal from one of the four directions it turns a red light green or prolong the green light. Here in NJ they are not to happy about them, actually I think they are illegal (like everthing else thats fun), but they do work!!!

    Peace

Check out http://www.signalsorcerer.com. I don't have personal experience with this but was told by fellow bikers that have this that it works. It costs about $20 bucks.

I just bought 2 of these yesterday. It's about the size of a small nail. I'm in New England so can't ride yet (although there were bikes out yesterday in the 40 degree summerlike weather :) .
I walked to the store this morning with one in my pocket. I crossed to the dividing island at the intersection when there were no cars there. Lo and behold the light changed for me. 'Might of ticked off the cars on the main road that had to stop though.
I had to go to the website to find out where I can get these and a local BMW dealer has them.
The instructions that come with them state that you should stop at the corners of the lane just like CD mentioned.
